  1. With in a mile of my house is down the block to me..


  2. yeah, to me, it means from one end of a street to another (like in a subdivision)

  3. It is a generic term applied locally, and understood by people living there.

  4. opposite of up the street or as  they say in the south over yonder

No...  Not a stop sing, but perhaps a major intersection, an entire neighborhood, to the next neighborhood.  A stop sign might just be down the street from me.  Whether you go up or down the block has to do with North and South, although sometimes, it has to do with altitude, hills and mountains, then again, that's not an issue in Florida.

  6. you got it stop sign to stop sign that's your block and if you are going any further than that its "around the corner"
