Watching nine ball on TV, I notice the players "pushing out" often when there is little or no shot on the table. How do you push out, why would you push out, when can you push out, and why is this not a foul? Any answers would be helpful. Thanks.

  1. a push out occurs after the break. if you, the breaker have no shot you can "push out" which means your opponenet can take the shot you give him on the push out, or he can defer back to you for the shot. so your push out needs to be left in a spot where its a hard shot that you dont mind taking if he doesnt want it.

  2. AKA Roll out after the break if you have no shot on the legal ball you can roll out to a position on the table you think you can make a shot from but the other player cant you better hope your right he can have you shoot it if he dont want it .its really a safety shot that saves you a foul following the break.

  3. A pushout shot can be done only on the first shot after the break in 9 ball. The player at the table can roll the cueball to any position they like and the incoming player can either shoot or give the table back to his opponent. A lot of players don't like the push shot but I think it adds some interesting strategy to the game.

  4. Everyone so far is correct....it is mainly a safety shot and applies to the first shot after the break......you are either snookered or just to hard a shot....or you just might not like the get from the object ball to the next ball and resort to "pushing out" so as to throw it back to your opponent.....another good example....you break leaving the 9 at the mouth of a pocket....you are snookered and will have to kick at the 1 ball and if you miss....he gets the ball in hand and then lines up the 1 to the 9......'RACK PLEASE!".......so you call a "push" and knock the 9 ball in....but still leaving a hard shot to your opponent......you can pocket any ball on the push shot and all stay in except the 9.......if your opponent is asleep or not focused....call a push.....pocket the 2 ball and see if he doesn't come up hollering "foul" and pick up the cue ball.....you then "holler" back at him...."foul-foul!!" and now you get the ball in hand...for a cue ball foul!!!......hope this helps some...good luck on the tour!!!
