  1. Invasive species are species that are not native to the area and may cause problems for the existing organisms.  For example, the cane toad is a big problem in Australia.  It was originally brought to Australia to help control the grub problems in the sugar cane fields.  But the grub only came out in seasons when the Cane toad did not. Since the Cane toad has an immense appetite, it eats many animals and insects- not beneficially- and itself does not have any enemies besides people.  (Cane toads have poison)

Veldt grass is another invasive specie that is hard to get rid of and competes with the other natural grasses for space and water.  Pied Currawong is another example of an invasive specie in Auustralia that has caused the decline of other species of birds' populations.

Often times, invasive plant species will reproduce quite quickly.

  2. A non-native species of plants or animals that out-competes native species in a specific habitat.

  3. any species that is introduced into a foreign environment.  the problem with them is that they have no natural enemies or controls in the new environments and they can usually far outpace the species that already are there performing that role in the new environ.

'invasive' could be replaced with 'newly sucessful' species.

  4. A non indigenous species that is introduced to a new habitat wherein it out competes native species.

  5. Those nonnative species to a region (exotics) that threatened natives via competing for the same resources and that are impossible to eliminate because they have completely taken over niches of those native species.

  6. Any species that has been introduced to an environment where it is not native, and that has since become a nuisance through rapid spread and increase in numbers, often to the detriment of native species.
