flagella - a whip-like appendage on some single celeld organisms which are used for locomotion

metabolize - the process of converting food or nutrients into energy by means of metabolic processes

methane - chemical formula CH4 - a by product of decaying organic material (plants) in aneorobic (oxygen-less) environment

multicellular colonies - where several individuals will come together and live in the same area
