Definitions of Modernity?

Can some1 give me some defintions of Modernity? I know what it is, but I'm trying to define it & its proving to be very difficult...

This question was asked by my professor yesterday. He said modernity doesn't have a specific meaning. For every person it means something different but basically it is all new aspects of life that were introduced in the past 500 years.

For you modern may mean something (fasion, song, industrian development, invention, rule, idea) that happened last year or last month or even yesterday. For the people who lived 500 years ago they had the same meaning of modernity but when you think about what was modern for them, you think of it as old. So modernity changes with time. It is the new aspects of life for a person at their current age.
