Is it dangerous to leave tires deflated (still on a car) and then fill them back up and use them again?

  1. no unless the rim has cut the interior of tire. but if his tires have deflated, he has a small leak somewhere.

  2. I agree with Brad S.

If the car has been sitting for a couple of weeks and the tires were in good condition in the first place, I'd just fill them up again to the proper tire pressure (sticker is either on the door frame or glove box and also info is inside your Owner's Manual), and drive around a while, turn corners at a low speed etc.....to make sure they are working BEFORE making any attempt to travel on any high speed roads.

  3. Like many questions here....it all depends.  How long have the tires been deflated on the car?  How old are the tires?  What are the size of the tires?

Sound like strange questions?  Not really.  The size of the tire will tell you the height of the side wall.  Lower profile tires have stronger sidewalls by nature due to the design of the tire.

The age of the tire also will have a lot to do the the condition of the rubber.  As rubber gets older it becomes drier and more brittle.  That's one reason the tell you to frequently to check you hoses and belts.  As the tires become more brittle, the rubber will begin to crack.  While you can inflate them, and probably get yourself to the tire store, I wouldn't continue to drive on them.  They are not safe.

Also, how long they have been deflated, on the car, will tell you how the rubber has adjusted to being in that position.  If they have been deflated for a long period of time (months/years) the rubber will not come back completely to its original shape.  It will either begin to leak, where the sidewall is crimped, or at the seal around the wheel, or a weaker sidewall is a likely spot for a blow out.

If you have only be deflated a short time, then yes, by all means reinflate the tire to the recommended PSI and enjoy your driving.

Properly inflated tires have a lot to do with good gas mileage too.  Really important as expensive as gas is!

  4. Tires are made to be flexible! If they weren't, they would be filled once by the installer and never touched again. Sure its ok to refill them. In fact, its really smart. If you are in doubt though, take them to your local tire dealer and let them inspect your tires for uneven wear, sun cracks, blemishes and other such tire life shortening flaws. Keeping the best rubber possible on the road is important. Good luck!

  5. For a short time like maybe one mile but yes it is dangerous it you leave them this way for a long period of time and then inflate them and use them..........
