Tottenham Hotspur striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 to relax and rediscover his Liverpool form for Chelsea by learning to cope with the pressure that has been piled on him.
The Spaniard has only scored 7 goals in 21 appearances in all competitions this season, and has so far not proven to be a good buy for the astounding sum of £50 million that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 paid for his services in 2011.
Torres was once the most feared strikers in the land back in his playing days for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809, and made a very surprising and big money move to Stamford Bridge in the winter transfer window of the 2010/ 2011 Premier League season.
Chelsea had been looking for a striker to replace the prolific http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044, and Fernando Torres was considered the ideal front man. The player rose to prominence at Atletico Madrid before he was signed by Liverpool.
Torres made a huge impact in the league, scoring 24 league goals in his first 33 appearances and then went on to score a total 65 Premier League goals in 102 appearances.
His move to Chelsea did not reap the same results, with the striker only managing 11 goals in 60 league appearances in a blue jersey. Torres’ dip in form was first largely attributed to Chelsea’s defensive playing style, but he failed to perform even when
the Blues signed the likes of Juan Mata, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Eden-Hazard-c11863 to provide better service for him.
Last week, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Di Matteo was fired and former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez was brought in to help Torres regain his form. However, Defoe has encouraged Torres to stop relying on his former manager and rediscover his scoring form on his own.
Defoe insists that there is too much pressure on Torres, and said that the striker needs to treat the football pitch like a schoolyard and play on instinct. Speaking to reporters, he said:
“People put so much pressure on Torres that he can’t relax and enjoy his football. There is pressure every game you play. It is something you have to deal with and everyone deals with it differently. You just have to approach it like any other game, like
a schoolboy would.”
