Tottenham Hotspur striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jermain-Defoe-c18359 has urged the fans to be patient and give some time to new manager Andre Villas-Boas to settle in.
The Portuguese manager is still in search of his first win as Spurs boss, and has come under immediate pressure after losing the opening game of the season and drawing the next two games at home.
Tottenham have made a number of signings, with two high profile transfers having been completed on the last day of the transfer window. The club bought http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857 and Rafael Van Der
Vaart moved away from White Hart Lane.
Later on, the club acquired Moussa Dembele from Fulham and then went on to sign http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hugo-Lloris-c16408 and Clint Dempsey in a deadline day frenzy. The arrivals of these players ensure that Spurs have the squad depth to compete on all
fronts this season, but so far, the club has failed to impress or make an impact.
The North London club scored first in both their home games, but managed to concede a goal towards the end, failing to secure three points. The midfield still looks like it’s adapting to life without Luka Modric and the defence was unstable and in disarray.
Jermain Defoe insists that Tottenham need time to settle and get used to playing with all the new arrivals at the club. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international striker said that the club is going through a transitional phase and Villas-Boas needs time for his project
to be a success.
Defoe is currently with the England squad, training for their World Cup qualifier against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ukraine-c3032. The player just signed a new Spurs contract after hinting that he might be forced to leave if not given ample playing opportunities.
Speaking about his new manager, Defoe said:
"When you join a new club, it takes a while to settle in. It's no different for a manager. When a new manager comes in, you know you'll be under big pressure.”
"But it takes time, its early days and it's important to give the manager time. We've got a strong squad and I'm sure we'll be fine.”
"It's new ideas, a new formation - people say 'it's the same players' but we're playing a different system this year. That's going to take time because a lot of boys haven't played this way before. When we adapt, we'll be fine."
