The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Emmanuel-Adebayor-c12526, and fears that he may not be able to continue that
role with the club anymore.
Even though Adebayor has decided to see his contract out with the English champions, Tottenham are reportedly still keen on permanently acquiring his services. This comes as no surprise considering the season the Togolese forward had with the North London
club.
The club is also linked to a number of other strikers, with Brazilian striker Leandro Damiao being the most prominent name to headline Tottenham related transfer rumours recently.
This may come as worrying news for Defoe, who spent almost the entire season playing second fiddle to Adebayor. Currently, Defoe is the only senior striker that Tottenham have in their squad. The club is desperately searching for a striker or two so that
it has a complete squad going into the new Premier League season.
Defoe, despite all the love he has for his club, feels that he may have to leave the club in search of first team football, as new manager Andre Villas-Boas considers his striking options. The player admitted that last season was ‘heartbreaking’ because
he was restricted to a substitute role. Despite managing 17 goals, the player was only used as back up. Speaking to the press, he said:
"Everyone knows how much I love Tottenham. Everybody knows that they are the club I want to play for.”
"But last season was heartbreaking for me in terms of putting my body on the line, being prepared to give everything for the club and not getting a game."
"Obviously I have to think seriously about my future," he added. "I will talk to the club and see what happens but right now all I want to do is what is best for Tottenham."
Defoe currently has two years left on his contract, and is linked with moves to Queen’s Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314, Sunderland and Reading.
