Tottenham Hotspur striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jermain-Defoe-c18359 has hailed the impact of manager Andre Villas-Boas and has thanked the Portuguese for his faith in him which has led to a prolific form in front of goal.
Defoe is currently the club’s top scorer and has been in lethal form this season, starting all but one of Tottenham’s league games.
The player has really rediscovered his form ever since Villas-Boas arrived at White Hart Lane. Defoe has been primarily used as a fringe player last season under Harry Redknapp, and had to make do with appearances from the bench. Despite this, he still managed
to score a number of goals for the club.
The player had admitted in the summer that he may be forced to seek a move away from White Hart Lane in search of regular football. Villas-Boas however convinced him that he was a major part of his plans and guaranteed the striker more playing time.
Defoe ended up signing a new contract, and has repaid the manager’s belief by putting in menacing goal scoring form. The striker has started 16 of Tottenham’s 17 games, and has scored 9 goals this season which have taken the club up to 4th spot
on the league table.
The player has credited Villas-Boas’ faith and belief for his fine form this season and was full of praise for the manager. He said:
“The new manager has come in and he has shown great faith in me. He said to me from the beginning, ‘I want you to stay at the club, I know you will score goals’. It has been fantastic. I have got my chances and I have scored goals. I just want to keep it
going and score more goals and help the team achieve something this year.”
The player also admitted that Tottenham need to improve the defensive side of their game. Tottenham have been effective going forward, but have also been guilty of conceding late goals. Spurs have conceded 10 goals in the final 15 minutes of their recent
games.
Villas-Boas recently held a meeting with his defenders in an attempt to discuss how they could possible improve their defence and stop conceding late goals. The player believes that they will improve this aspect of their game and is confident of results
this month.
