Tottenham Hotspur striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jermain-Defoe-c18359 spoke about the transfer day madness at the North London club last week and revealed how strange it was for the veteran striker.
The player said that he was not sure who would be included in the final Tottenham squad before the transfer window shut down. Tottenham completed a series of last-minute transfer deals before the clock struck midnight on 31st August.
Having to deal with the departures of star players http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857 and Rafael Van Der Vaart, Tottenham seriously needed to refuel their midfield. The club had a last minute bid for Porto playmaker Joao Moutinho, but failed to complete the paperwork and formalities
before the window shut down.
The club did however signs three players at the last minute. Spurs first acquired Belgian midfielder Moussa Dembele from Fulham for 16 million pounds, and then went on to purchase French goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hugo-Lloris-c16408 and Clint Dempsey at the last minute.
Defoe was only a bystander as Tottenham concluded these deals on deadline day. The player admitted his confusion as manager Andre Villas-Boas and chairman http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Levy spent the last weeks buying and selling players in a last ditch attempt to improve the
Spurs squad.
It was a bit mad," said Defoe. "You walk into the changing rooms, see the lads and don't know if you're going to see them the next day. It's funny.”
"I had my wisdom tooth out one day, came in and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tom-Huddlestone-c35227 had gone to Stoke [although the move stalled]. Someone else went. I said to the lads: 'I miss one day and all the players are gone!'"
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 striker had himself been uncertain about his future with the North London club. Having been restricted to the bench last season under former manager Harry Redknapp, Defoe had voiced his desire to move out of the club in search of first team football.
Defoe had been on the brink of a move to QPR, Sunderland and Aston Villa, but laid rest to all speculation by signing a new contract with the club.
"I love the club and the fans have been fantastic from day one. My family are in London and I love the boys at the club so I've signed a new contract and I'm settled now," he added.
