Degree at the Open university - is anyone doing 2 courses together, or taking longer than 6 years to complete?

If you apply for financial assistance, it is expected that you complete your degree in 6 years. This is fine if all your courses are 60 point ones. But in science 60 point courses are becoming something of a rarity above level 1, especially at level 3.

This means that either you have to take longer, possibly 2 years longer, to do your degree. Or you have to take 2 courses side by side. Anyone who's done an OU course knows they are intensive, and doing 2 together is hard. Infact, the university themselves advise not to unless you have plenty of time available!

Is anyone here doing 2 courses side by side? How are you managing?

  1. I am an OU student :-) to take 120 points is the same as full time study at a "normal" Uni. VERY hard to do if you work full time, I wouldn't advise it. The work load shoots up a LOT from level 2 to 3.

  2. Yes I'm doing 2 courses at once: Exploring Psychology and Biological Psychology: the brain. Its tough going, but I am trying to get a degree sooner than 6 years, because I'm so old already. I've studied loads of short courses this year. Management, genetics, science, the arts and fossils. I do love learning!
