i'm flying on my own for the first time. i am a minor, but not young enough for the whole "unaccompanied minor" thing. my flight is only an hour and a half long. i've only flown on large planes to large vacation destinations, never such a tiny plane like this one. is it different? what is it like? is it safe? i'm really worried. not my number one choice for my first flight alone. ahh! thanks!

  1. Well, it depends what version you are on. The dash 8-100 and 200 have 37 seats, the -300 has 50, and the -400 has 70. They are very safe planes. They are all very populat with airlines. They are very safe, quiet, and comfortable. They are much more spacious then regional jets (by that i mean CRJ's). I recently flew on a dash 8-400 and found it amazing. Quiet, legroom was amazing, and we flew 600km in exactly 1 hour!

  2. Dont worry if its only an hour and a half long

Small planes are just the same as large planes, Although many people i speak to would rather fly on a large plane, because they feel safer. Although this is not always the case. I am going on a small plane this summer to get to an island in Greece, it holds only 28 passengers, so yes very small. Dont worry.

  3. Its a Turbo Prop plane with about 35 seats on it, mainly used for short distances. They tend to be a little more noisy then jets, because of the propellers, and depending on weather, they can get a bit bumpy.. They are as safe as any other plane.

  4. All of the DeHavillands are good aircraft. They are safe and comfortable. They fly lower than jets, so you can see much more of the ground that you are flying over. Watch out the window and see what you can see.

    Regards,

    Dan
