OK, i have a Fredrick dehumidifier and the fan works, but it doesn't take moisture out of the air. Is there any way to repair this?

  1. A dehumidifier is nothing more than an air conditioner with the evaporator and condenser coils next to each other and no outside discharge for the heat. In fact the air is pulled in over the evaporator coils then the condenser coils before being discharged back into the room. Check that the filter on the coils is clean and you get good airflow through the unit. It sounds like the dehumidifier might be low on its refrigerant charge and the low pressure safety switch has shut off your compressor, or you could have a bad humidstat switch, bad thermostat switch or a loose connection.. You might be able to contact an air conditioner service man and get him to check the unit.

I am a licensed Universal HVAC technician. Had the same problem with my dehumidifier. Had to install a service port on the suction line and found that it was low on charge. Added some R-22 and closed up the dehumidifier and it has been working fine.

  2. It needs more than the fan working in it to remove humidity.

The compressor needs to be running.

Could be a simple wiring problem or the humidistat not working.
