Dejan Papic impressed by young talent’s performance in Sri Lanka: Table Tennis News
The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) recently launched a venture to explore the local talent in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lanka Table Tennis Association (SLTTA) took it as a challenge and it has improved the standards of table tennis in the country.
The table tennis players have improved their skills according to Dejan.
Dejan Papic is currently in Sri Lanka, who is there to pick boys and girls to be trained for the ITTF training camp at Vienna in June. He is in Sri Lanka as the SLTTA wants their players to reach the international table tennis circuit and to make a prominent
place among the top players of the world.
Dejan Papic is currently the head coach of the ITTF Hope Developmental Programme. He will pick two players from SLTTA in order to train them to play higher standards. During his stay he will also train the local coaches to hunt talent within the country
and to prepare them for future championship.
Dejan Papic said, “Sri Lanka is well organized and their coaches, players and family are very enthusiastic about improving the game.”
Dejan Papic is currently residing in Canada, but was born in Yugoslavia. He has been the senior national table tennis coach in Yugoslavia and Canada. He has played an important role in increasing the standards of table tennis in both the countries.
Papic thinks that the young Sri Lankan Paddlers are very talented and he has seen some extraordinary performances during the ITTF Hope training camp.
On the conclusion of the camp Dejan Papic said, “What they lack is exposure in international tournaments and if this can be regularly found they can learn more on the game.”
Papic thinks that the players have to put in more effort and go through serious training especially in the Under-14, 15 and 17 categories. This is a crucial time for the table tennis players in Sri Lanka if they remained successful at the end of the day
they can reach the Olympic Standard.
Dejan was impressed by the enthusiasm of the young players, if Cricketers in Sri Lanka support the local table tennis players the game can become one of the leading sports of the country.
