Dejan Stankovic eager to end career with Inter Milan
Inter Milan midfielder Dejan Stankovic says that he wants to end his career with the reigning European and Italian champions.
The 32-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to German outfit Schalke, but the Serbia international has no intention of leaving Rafael Benitez' squad
Stankovic told Vercerjne Novosti in his homeland, "It's the first time I have heard that Schalke are interested in me and I can say that it is nice when teams still look for you at 32. However, I cannot see myself far from Inter or Italy, where
I have been living for 13 years.
"This is my last experience abroad and I hope to close my career with Inter as I feel at home here. I think I will conclude my career at Inter, I am 95 per cent sure."
The Serbia captain began his career with Red Star Belgrade in Serbia, and made the breakthrough to the first team in the 1994-95 season, during which he made seven league appearances as he helped the club to win the (then) Yugoslavian league title as well
as the Yugoslavia Cup.
Stankovic was held in such high esteem by the club that he was appointed as captain at the age of 19 and guided the club to two more cup successes.
His performances attracted the attentions of Serie A side Lazio, who snapped him up in 1998. Stankovic went on to make 205 total appearances for the club, winning the Scudetto in the 1999-00 campaign and the Italian Cup in the same year. He also claimed
two winners' medals in the Italian Supercup during his time there, as well as the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and UEFA Super Cup.
Stankovic moved to Inter in 2004 and has helped them to win five league titles in a row, three Italian Cups, four Italian Supercups and the UEFA Champions League. He has scored 36 goals in 262 games in total for the Nerazzurri.
