Dekmeijere/ Mueller labour past Coin/ Pelletier in opening round – Bell Challenge 2011
Latvian American duo of Liga Dekmeijere and Alexandra Mueller of America struggled past French Canadian pair of Julie Coin and Marie-Eve Pelletier in a three setter mouth watering match at the Bell Challenge 2011, an International
tournament from the WTA tour held on the indoor hard courts in Quebec, Canada. They registered a 6-0, 3-6, 12-10 victory over their rivals to secure a quarter-final spot on Wednesday.
Dekmeijere and Mueller displayed exceptional skills in the opening set to earn a bagel but stepped off gas afterwards. However, they managed to prevail in the decider to register a three setter victory in one hour and eleven minutes.
The Latvian American pair went berserk into the opening set as they unleashed barrage of groundstrokes and smashed various shots to bag in all six games in a row. They produced a higher first serve share and earned a fascinating
90 percent win on it. Furthermore, Dekmeijere and Mueller faced zero breakpoint and capitalised on three out of four breakpoint chances to their advantage to earn this bagel.
Coin and Pelletier re-shuffled their strategy and managed to come on score sheet. They warded off the only breakpoint faced and converted two out of three breakpoint opportunities to their advantage to seal the equaliser by winning
six games to three. The French Canadian tandem clobbered a drastic first serve share of 35 percent as opposed to their rivals’ 67 percent but earned a fabulous 75 percent win on it.
In the super tie-breaker, Dekmeijere and Mueller got back on track. They clobbered a better first serve share of 91 percent as compared to their opponents’ 82 percent and registered a convincing 60 percent win on it. Furthermore,
they prevailed in the end to clinch the decider with a 12-10 score line.
Up next for the winning combination of Dekmeijere and Mueller is the fourth seeded American pair of Lindsay Lee-Waters and Megan Moulton-Levy who dumped Luxembourgian American pair of Anne Kremer and Varvara Lepchenko in straight
sets to reach this spot.
The seeds fended off both breakpoints faced and cashed in on half of the six breakpoint opportunities to their advantage to seal the deal with a 6-4, 6-2 score line in just under an hour. Although Lee-Waters and Moulton-Levy coughed
seven double faults and clobbered a lower first serve share, their perfect co-ordination and timings led them clinch the match. They also earned an excellent 85 percent win on their first serve share.
