How has he beat. Let me tell you who beat him Parnell Whitaker they gave this fight to Del La Hoya but we all asw the fight. Shane Mosley, Felix Tenadad BVernard Hopkins, Winkey Wright we all saw the fight they called it a draw but we saw the fight.Floyed Mayweather. Now he is going to fight a guy who lost on the Contender Del La Hoyas whole career is a joke. He made a lot of money but to call him great is a disservice to the truly great fighters.

  1. I guess a few people love to hate him.  But whatever the personal issues with him might be, I don't think you can call a fighter who has won as many world titles in as many different weight classes as he has, and either beat or arguably beat as many world class fighters as he has a "joke" or overrated.

I do think that he was much more on his game for the first half of his career, and he appeared to have suffered a bit from out-of-the-ring distractions after that time.  But he has still been a world-class fighter, and he very recently gave the so-called p4p best fighter in the world all he could handle, losing by 1-point.  (I am one of those who believes that he actually beat Floyd Mayweather Jr. -- and Trinidad for that matter.)

No way is he overrated.  He'll always be among the p4p best.  Three more fights and I believe boxing will see his hanging up the gloves as the end of an era.

  2. ok his best days are gone but Del La Hoya is one of the best boxer the world has ever seen he has more heart then anyone and never says die, a true legend

  3. De La Hoya lost to Mayweather. It was not a draw. He lost by one point, and could've been argued either way. Personally I saw the De La Hoya Mayweather as a De La Hoya Victory. He threw more. He landed more. He was the aggressor. Mayweather landed more powerful, accurate shots...

  4. He is a quality boxer, I watched the Floyd Mayweather fight and it was really close. De La Hoya is a great fighter

  5. if you see de la hoyas early fights he was an incredible fighter. the boy had heart and a great left hook and always finished strong.

i thaught he beat mosley the second time around

i thouaght he outboxed trinindad the majority of hte rounds

the whittaker fight  could have gone either way just like the pacman and marquez fight

and his fighting steve forbes casues he has similiar style to floyds. he is trained by the mayweathers so its a good tune up fight for him

  6. I wouldn't call him overrated he is a great figther who has won it all in amateur and professional, and some of his losses are very argued specially the one with trinidad.

  7. De la Hoya is more than just a boxer, he is the Ambassador of Boxing. He appeals to a wider audience than any boxer right now, even though as he fades into the sunset strip as a boxer. He is the meal ticket for lots of boxer out there, just ask Hopkins and Sugar and Floyd. He fought just about anybody on the top tier echelon. One thing that you cannot said about Oscar, he is not a dodger.

But no by no means he is not overrated.

  8. I wouldn't really call him overrated. I agree, his fight with Whitaker could very well be argued. At the same time, Oscar defeat(s) to Shane Mosley could be argued as well. His lost to Trinidad was definitely a robbery by the judges. Against Hopkins, it was expected to Oscar to lose. Not too many fighters can start at lightweight and successfully move up to middleweight and capture a title, especially when the title holder is Hopkins of all people.

Anyway, whether Oscar won or lost all his fights, controversial or not, his outcome was against other elites in the sport. Because of that I won't call him overrated, especially since I rate him no higher than the elites he fought.

  9. I understand where you are coming from, but there are two sides to the coin:

On one hand; he has lost 5 of his biggest fights- Felix Trinidad, Shane Mosley (twice), Bernard Hopkins, and Floyd Mayweather, Jr.  And the Pernell Whitaker fight was very close and could have gone Whitaker's way.

On the other hand; two of his losses are very controversial and could have easily gone his way- the Trinidad fight as well as the second Mosley fight.  Whitaker succeeded in making Oscar look bad but, but Whitaker could make ANYONE look bad, and the only time he was soudly beaten was when his jaw was broken against Trinidad and he was older.  I can't really call the Whitaker fight a robbery.  Bernard Hopkins was a natural middleweight and Oscar turned pro as a super featherweight; B-Hop was simply too big and strong for Oscar. You mention Winky Wright, but Oscar has actually never fought him...  He also DOES have some quality wins such as beating a prime Ike Quartey, Fernando Vargas, Oba Carr, Genaro Hernandez, Jesse James Leija, and dominating a faded Julio Ceasar Chavez twice.  The Steve Forbes fight is only a tuneup for the Mayweather rematch, and you can't blame him for wanting to be prepared as possible for the best pound for pound fighter in the world.

When its all said and done, I can't really call him overrated because what he has done for the sport inside and outside the ring cannot be overlooked.  He has won world titles in 6 different weight classes and he was the biggest name fighter of this generation by far and he got a lot of people to watch boxing just to see him fight.  On the same token, I don't think that he is the best of all time or anything like that, but I think that when his career is over, he deserves to be called a great fighter.

  10. no man i would call manny pacquiao over rated.

  11. The fact that De La Hoya easily held his own against the best should prove his mettle. Like many others, I had DLH winning the trinidad fight and the mosley rematch. Against Hopkins, he was simply out-sized especially considering that Hopkins is now fighting light middleweights even at 43 years of age. Don't be fooled - Hopkins is friggen huge!!!

Against Floyd Mayweather, DLH was among the few to come close to beating him. Say what you want, DLH was certainly not the young goldenboy that threw 40 jabs per round!

Why else is DLH great? Because he took on all the fighters that had a chance of beating him and gave the fans and opportunity to see mega-fights! De La Hoya was man enough to fight Floyd Mayweather, do you think Mayweather would have given Margarito let alone Cotto the same chance? Nope. De La Hoya fought the fights and ducked NO ONE. If you can't respect him as a title holder, you can still at least respect him as a fighter and as a person. He has given back more money to his community than many fighters will have ever made.

  12. I wouldn't call the Whitaker a robbery, it was close, but Whitaker didn't do much offensively to beat De La Hoya. Even Whitaker's corner told Pernell that they were losing the fight in the late rounds.

You can argue that he beat Shane Mosley(WHO WAS ON THE JUICE).De La Hoya had an OVERWHELMING statistical advantage, and they still awarded the win to Mosley. I gave it to De La Hoya-clear decision

He definitely beat Trinidad. I would argue this with anybody.

He beat Quartey. Great fight, The sixth round was great.

His losses have been by a MINIMUM margin except for Bernard Hopkins.

    He never fought Winky Wright.

He is fighting Steve Forbes because it is a TUNE-UP FIGHT. It's supposed to be EASY. He needs to prepare himself for Floyd Mayweather.

I would NEVER call De La Hoya overrated.

  13. im not an oscar lover or hater but he is an elite status fighter,he looked awesome as a lightweight and jr.welterweight and was a very good champion at welterweight, most of his loses are disputable, except for loss to hopkins.i watch him fight whitaker and thought oscar won that fight by a few rounds, he had that fight with strum he probably should have lost but how many great fighters have a questionable win under their belt (alot of them).then he fought supposably todays pound for pound best in a very even fight ,(after a long layoff and being past his prime). oscar may not be the best of all time but is certainly one of the best of his era,you obviously havent followed boxing for very long.
