Delaware has no sales tax. NJ has 7% sales tax.

I live in NJ. I want to save some money on shopping. If I do the shopping in Delaware will they charge zero tax?

What if I do shopping online?

Thanks!!

  1. NJ also has a 7% use tax, so you could not legally save any money by shopping in Delaware for consumption in New Jersey.  You could save by having dinner and a movie in Delaware, instead of New Jersey, assuming the prices are the same.

  2. If you live close and gas is not an issue shop in Delaware.

If you buy $100.00 worth of stuff, you saving just $7.00

If you shop on line, tax is determined by the state in where you and the business resides. If the business has a presence in your state you would be required to pay your state sales tax. Buy from a business where they have no presence in your state to not pay sales tax.

  3. What are you shopping for?  NJ does not charge sales tax on clothing, shoes, or groceries.  How much will you be spending to make up for the gas driving there?
