Delay in FIA-proposed 2013 Formula 1 engine regulations almost certain – Formula 1 news
Recent reports have revealed that the new engine regulations which are expected to take effect starting from the 2013 Formula 1 season, will be postponed most certainly.
This rule change has been criticised from all corners as people like Bernie Ecclestone (Formula 1 Management chief), Luca di Montezemolo (Ferrari president) and almost every engine-supplying company of the sport are now against the V4 turbo engine plan the
officials of the sport want to introduce.
Ferrari, Mercedes, Cosworth and Renault are the only four engine supplying companies of the sport and all of them have asked the officials for a clarification regarding these rule changes.
As a result of this criticism and all of these questions, Jean Todt, the president of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) has decided to delay the decision of this regulation change until the end of June 2011.
It is believed that Todt has delayed this decision mainly because Renault threatened to quit the sport if these rule changes go ahead.
“I personally feel we've got to seek a compromise. If it were my call I'd probably go for a turbocharged V6,” McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh and Chairman of the Formula 1 Teams Association told the media.
Norbert Haug, the vice president of engine suppliers Mercedes also criticised the current attitude and thinking of the FIA as he claims that these rules are going to create many hurdles.
“I think establishing rules and then have only two, three manufacturers who are committed is just a problematic situation that needs to be solved together,” said Haug.
Other than that, the Blown Diffusers will be banned starting from the British Grand Prix as well because some of the teams were using the device illegally.
The upcoming few weeks are going to be quite interesting as most of the teams and people are going to have their say regarding this matter which might clear things up even more. Let’s see how the situation transpires in the days to come.
