Delay in HGH testing implementation in NFL raises eye brows – NFL News
The delay in implementation of a programme to introduce Human Growth Hormone (HGH) testing in National Football League (NFL), American football's premier league, has raised a number of questions about NFL Players' Association's
sincerity about it.
There is a theory suggesting that NFL Players Association (NFLPA) might be trying to help protect its players if they were involved in taking any substance.
A recently retired pro-bowl defensive tackle Kris Jenkins told a Showtime on Inside the NFL (INFL) that according to his assessment there were roughly 20 per cent players using HGH.
"I think, real world -- I don't know -- it could be more, it could be less, I don't know. But I'm not saying that like players are going into the bathroom and they're going and shooting their butts up and doing all of this," he
said. "Most of these things, they're not FDA-approved. ... You have no idea what's going on. And you take a protein shake (because) you're trying to lean up (lose weight); next thing you know, you've gained five pounds. It's like; wait a minute, what's (in
here)?"
Meanwhile, a former Bengals wide out, Cris Collinsworth, said that it was interesting to note why the HGH testing was not being implemented despite that an agreement had been reached between NFL office and NFLPA. The delay has
given birth to too many theories, he said.
A major breakthrough has been made in July this year when NFL and NFPLA agreed to implement a HGH testing programme in the NFL from this season. However, despite lapse of almost six months the programme is yet to be implemented
given the reasons that NFLPA and NFL office differ on its procedures.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has insisted and hoped for implementation of the programme as earlier as possible. The NFLPA in the meantime has continued to insist for gathering of more players’ data before giving approval to testing
measures.
Goodell has hoped that players association will give an approval to HGH testing measures and the programme will be implemented before end of NFL’s current regular season, which is already halfway through.
