Delay in naming World Cup captain harming Pakistan - Imran Khan
Pakistan’s former legendary all-rounder/captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board (PCB) for not naming the captain of the team for this month’s World Cup, set to begin from the 19th of this month.
The World Cup is being jointly hosted by India, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747.
Imran, while talking at a promotional event held in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, said, “It's just three weeks before the World Cup starts. But we still don't know who the captain is.”
Imran led Pakistan to their only World Cup victory in 1992. He believes that Pakistan have hurt their chances at the premier cricketing tournament by not naming the skipper of the team, and blasted the cricketing authorities in
Pakistan for the delay.
Imran was joined by former skippers from the rest of the world, who had led their teams to success in cricket’s global event. The veterans included Clive Lloyd of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kapil-Dev-c70234, Australia's Allan Border and Steve
Waugh and Sri Lankan http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Arjuna-Ranatunga-c45447.
Speaking among them, Imran stressed that it was not easy for someone to come up and lead the team without properly knowing the pros and cons of his side. He was of the opinion that a good captain needs time to make proper strategies
for a huge event such as the World Cup.
“You can't have just three weeks before the World Cup and the captain has not been announced. All these captains here will tell you that it takes time to know your team... Its strengths... Its weaknesses...
To develop your strategy..,” said Imran.
Pakistan announced their 15-man squad for the World Cup on the 18th of January but decided not to name the captain for the event. Since Pakistan’s hard-hitting batsman Shahid Afridi is the current
ODI skipper, it was evident that he was going to lead the team in the World Cup. However, when he was not named, it generated a controversy in Pakistan. According to reports in the media, Chairman of the PCB http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 wants to appoint the middle order batsman
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972 as the skipper of the World Cup squad. Misbah is currently the captain of the Test team of Pakistan.
According to reports, PCB will announce the name of the World Cup skipper on the 4th of this month. Currently Pakistan are in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 playing in a six-match ODI tournament under the captaincy
of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482. Pakistan are leading the series 2-1.
