  1. That depends a lot on the date that you and he determine and how that all fits in with tech school and the eventual job you will be going into if that is also known.  As for physical training or prior enlistment preparation training with them that is something that they started about ten or so years ago to better prepare recruits for Basic training and the physical and mental rigors that are put on you in Basic.  For those people that may not be used to working out and are not in good physical shape or are not used to discipline and the military way of doing things and their approach to things it gives them a better chance of successfully completing Basic.

  2. It does depend on the recruiter. My recruiter trained with me, we PT every week for it, including Poolee Functions, where they actually PT along with all the other recruiters. A good thing to have because it shows the recruiters care. Again, it all depends on the recruiter.

You'll know when you are going to boot camp at MEPS, when you actually enlist. You can actually pick the month you go to boot camp and the people over at MEPS will give the date, usually a Monday, or Tuesday in some cases.

  3. no you will have to do all the training yourself. she/he will get you into shape for the pft that you will have to do, but to get into shape for boot, you will need to do that. but that is what boot is all about. as long as you are able to pass a pft you will be fine. they will train you in boot camp. it is a plus if you are physically fit and go into boot. my husband ran six miles a day. so the physical stress that was put on him wasnt as severe as it was on other people. but that is only have of boot. boot is also mental. but then again it also depends on what boot you are going to. because air force boot is nothing like Marine boot.

as for the DEP, i guess you are doing this to finish hs? it just depends on when the next class of boot starts up compared to when you graduate. and they can always change you pick up date. my husbands was suppose to be in mid may, the came unannounced and picked him up on easter sunday. once you sign those papers they are yours. but if you are in the DEP the wont take you until after you graduate, if this is your reason.

start working out on your own every day. run a few miles, work out in the gym lifting weights. and mentally prepare youself by understanding this is more than just a commitment, its a lifestyle change. you will be told when to go to the bathroom, when to sleep, eat and talk. its not as easy as it might seem. just dont over look the mental part. it is harder than the physical they put on you

  4. I was in DEP - it is a good tool for getting you a slot or seat in the training class, they would align your basic training so you would go from basic training into the class you are slated for.

Think of DEP as an appointment you made to attend some training, once a slot or seat opens up in a class or once a new class is formed up your name is in the hopper to get added to that class.

    Hope it helps...

Also DEP helps you get a few extra buck or it used to when I was on active duty - when you make E-3 or higher when they are talking about E-3 with X number of years (plus DEP time)  look at a pay chart

  5. You will be advised by your recruiter but most of the work will be up to you. They will give you things that should be achieved by the time you leave and help you to learn these things at the meetings. There is outside work involoved though.

  6. The recruiter will advise you and keep up to date with you status.

  7. no...the recruiter isn't going to train you. you do that yourself! and you can postpone your departure date up to 12 months. so you and your recruiter will sit down and decide when you leave. good luck!

  8. It really depends on the recruiter. Some will be dedicated to train you so you'll be ready for BMT, where as some recruiters will say thanks for enlisting for the military have a good time at BMT. I don't know if any other branches do the same as the Air Force, but I, am DEP enlisted and how boot camp works for me is that when there is an opening for my job area I deploy.

  9. The DEP is there to keep you in contact with your recruiter, let you network with other poolees, and to get you ready for boot camp. It really depends on the station and your recruiter but most will at least recommend a workout routine to help you prep for boot camp. Marine poolees meet at least once a month for an IT session (my boyfriend's poole meets every Saturday). If you want to do more than IT sessions with the poole ask your recruiter if there are smaller groups of guys that meet up to workout or if he has any time available to help you out.

You have a max of 364 days in the DEP and you will ship out any where within a year of you enlisting into the DEP. When you ship out for boot camp is dependent on when they have slots open. If you want to leave earlier then your ship date just let your recruiter know and he can keep an eye open for any slots that open up (though you can have some Very short notice).

Feel free to e-mail me (its in my profile) if you have any other questions.

  10. Yes your recruiter does help you(or at least mine does) and your ship date will be told to you at meps
