my textbook shows a picture of a wound with an open u shaped suture but there is no mention in any resource ive looked at of any type of suture

are any mechanical tools used to aid delayed primary intention?

You cannot close the wound until you have a clean wound bed, in prepping the wound bed we do mechanical debridement, and enzymatic debridement, once all eschar is gone and the microbial load has been reduced we procede to attempt to get wound edges to begin granulation,once this begins you can undermine the wound bed and throw interuppted sutures across the wound in a slight tension manner in order to start acclimazation of the wound edges at some point it may need secondary closure.  NOTE THIS IS NOT CASE SPECIFIC, ONLY AN EXAMPLE.


  2. Typically, delayed closure involves only simple dressings, perhaps with antibiotic ointment, followed by revision of wound edges and typical closure after a few days. No special gizmos.
