Question:

Delete a group that I am not a moderator of?

Hello,

I am a part of a student organization called ASME, and I discovered that we had this old yahoo group and yahoo account. Luckily I guessed the password to the e-mail, but I would like to delete the yahoo group UCF_ASME. I am not the moderator of this group. The moderator's e-mail provided says that it is a bounceback e-mail, so I cannot get in contact with this person. How can I go about deleting this group?

Thank you in advance

  1. send an e-mail to the address at the bottom of the group page-

you cant delete a group you're not the owner of, Yahoo only deletes groups due to TOS or abuse, and nothing in between. maybe during Yahoo's further clean up process it may be deleted, but as of today, there are literally hundreds of inactive groups and have been for years

  2. Did you send the email to

    [GROUPNAME]-owner@yahoogroups.com?

If yes, then you have exhausted your options.   Only the owner of the group or a moderator with the privilege of deleting the group can do it.

Eventually the group will be eliminated due to inactivity - but be patient, some of them live on long past the time they should.

    Hope that helps!

  3. If you are not the owner or privileged moderator, you cannot delete the group. (as far as I know, yahoo can't do anything either, the owner must delete it.) But you can mail the owner:

    GROUPNAME-owner@yahoogroups.com

And here is how it is done.
