while searching the web earlier this evening my trend micro pc-cillin informed me that it detected and quarantined a virus. i went to the quarintine panel in trend micro program and there is a delete option.

there are also a few other options wich are in order : add, clean, delete, delete all, restore.

now the question is, what should i do with the virus? delete? restore? or just leave it in there... thx

  1. dont delete. quarantine it. This will not leave the virus outside. if  u delete after some days or months it i.e. the same virus will come again

  2. well if it was detected as quarantine, then the best bet is to "clean" or "delete all "option.

Unless you are aware of that file/program detected as quarantine is what you have installed by urself at some point, then  you can hit the restore option, only if you need that file/program.

Else.. clean it up or delete all..

    Good luck :)

  3. QUARANTINE FIRST, THEN DELETE LATER!

Malware removal is somewhat of an inexact science. Mistakes can and do happen. Often. False-positive detections happen more often then the anti-malware industry cares to admit. It's their dirty little secret.

Needed system files can be mistakenly flagged as malware. Quarantining allows a way to undo any incorrect file deletions, easily, if it ever becomes necessary.  When the anti-virus vendor finds their mistake and corrects their signature definitions, for you, the user, it is too late. The needed file has already been permanently deleted. And then it's, "tough luck".

A file in quarantine is totally safe. It can do no harm.

You should quarantine everything for a month or so, then if all is OK with your computer and all of your programs, then you can delete.
