Delfina Acosta falters on day two of the Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship’s girl division
Delfina Acosta of Argentina faltered in the second round of the Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship’s girl division, for a five-over par 76, on Friday, December 28, 2012.
After round one, she held a one-stroke lead over Megan Khang of the United Sates, following a three-under par 68.
However, the Argentine failed to keep the momentum going into the second round and dropped down to the share of the second position on the leaderboard.
She got off to a poor start, bogeying three of the first seven holes that she played. She then parred each of the next two holes, to reach the turn in three-over.
The back nine of the course witnessed her making even worse start, as she lost four shots on the first four holes – she bogeyed the 10th and the 11th hole and double-bogeyed the 13th hole.
Thereafter, she carded two birdies on the 15th and the 18th hole. However, it was not enough to save her position on the top.
At the end of the day, she found herself settled five strokes behind the halfway leader Khang, who carded a one-under par 70 to accumulate a three-under par two-day score.
Talking to the tournament’s official website, she said that her putting technique was the main culprit behind her poor performance in the second round.
She told that she failed to hit the greens seven times during the first round. Yet, she succeeded in posting a decent score on the leaderboard.
However, the second round witnessed her missing the greens just five times. Still, she posted a five-over par score, which speaks of her failure with her putter.
She now plans to tweak her short game technique, in a bid to return into contention for the top spot on the leaderboard.
“It’s simple,” she explained. “Yesterday I missed seven greens and scored 68, today I missed five greens and finished five-over par. I need to get my putting back on track”.
According to the golf commentators, she certainly has the potential to post good scores, considering the fact that she plays really with her driver and hits well with her irons. However, she will have to work really hard, in order to slice the massive lead
held by Khang.
