Delhi Daredevils captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Virender-Sehwag-c95429 hopeful of reaching IPL playoffs – IPL news
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 Daredevils captain Virender Sehwag is hopeful about his team’s chances of bouncing back and reaching the playoffs of the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League.
The skipper however stressed that the Delhi outfit will have to work hard in the remaining five fixtures of the ongoing tournament.
“It's difficult but not impossible (qualifying for the play-offs). In one of the previous IPL, Deccan (Chargers) won five in a row and qualified so there is no reason why can't we do a similar thing. But we will have to play really well to give us any chance,”
said the hard-hitting opener after his side slumped to a 7-wicket loss against Kochi Tuskers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kerala-c803 on Monday, May 2, 2011.
With 6 losses from 9 fixtures, Delhi Daredevils are standing in the bottom half of the IPL points table with 6 points.
Kochi Tuskers Kerala batsmen helped their side overwhelm the mediocre 141-run target set by Delhi with 5 overs to spare.
The Delhi skipper admitted that the loss of early wickets on Monday played a crucial part in their defeat. A strong performance by Sehwag and his partner David Warner would have helped them to score big, however, the dismissal of the duo left the middle-order
under a lot of pressure.
Sehwag further went on to say that the wicket at Feroz Shah Kotla may have allowed them to score 160-170 runs had they been able to bat well.
Sehwag was dismissed for a paltry 15 when he was caught by wicketkeeper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shanthakumaran-Sreesanth-c89725 after scoring only 13 runs.
“If Warner and I give a good start we are a different side. But we didn't make enough runs today. It was a good wicket and we should have made 160-170,” he said.
The 32-year-old described himself as a key player of the Daredevil’s batting order but praised some of his batsmen, saying that there are other good performers in the line-up.
“But there are good batsmen in the side who can score runs. Venu (Y http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Venugopal-Rao-c2752) has been scoring frequently. It happens when you lose a couple of early wickets,” added Sehwag.
Worried about failing in their home fixtures, Sehwag said that the track offers much to the batting line-up so scoring big runs and bowling well is necessary for a win.
