Delhi Daredevils captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Virender-Sehwag-c95429 slams the wicket at Nehru Stadium: IPL News
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kerala-c803 on Saturday, saying the wicket was not suitable for a Twenty20 match.
The wicket at the Nehru stadium was slow and offered uneven bounce. The batsmen from both the sides struggled to hit the ball for boundaries.
The Delhi skipper was the only exception as he played a whirlwind knock of 80 runs, laced with eight hard-hit boundaries and five lofty sixes to steer the visitors to a competitive total of 157 for 7 from their allotted quota of 20 overs.
When asked whether the wicket was inappropriate for a Twenty20 match, the swashbuckling Indian opener said, "Absolutely. People are coming to watch fours and sixes and not to see 120 runs. If you give a track for bowlers and batsmen, I'm sure you'll end
up making 170 and 180 runs in 20 overs and everybody will enjoy the game."
He said that if a side has good bowlers then it can contain the opposition batting inside 160 to 170 runs, adding that in Twenty20 cricket no matter how good a bowler is, the batsmen go for hits. He further added that in a Twenty20 match the players are
always looking forward for a good batting track.
Sehwag admitted that he played cautiously against temperamental speedster, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/S-Sreesanth-c2398, as he reckoned it would be better to give the Indian pacer respect rather than going after him.
"I had to bat cautiously against him because when a bowler is taking wickets, it is better to give him respect rather than go after him. But I was telling myself, if he gives balls in my areas, I will go after him because we have to score runs and we can't
play every ball cautiously," added Sehwag.
Sehwag agreed the ball was keeping quite low after pitching. However, he said that he was lucky that the ball did not keep that low during his 81-run innings.
