Delhi Daredevils post 160/6 against Royal Challengers Bangalore – 1st Innings Report
James Hopes led a brave recovery for Delhi Daredevils as they posted 160 for 6 against Bangalore at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium on 26 April, 2011.
Delhi, one of the most explosive batting line ups in the Indian Premier League was not able to get away with a big score against Bangalore’s bowling attack.
Daniel Vettori, the Bangalore skipper, won the toss and elected to bowl first. Answering the call, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Virender-Sehwag-c95429 and David Warner one of the most dangerous opening duos in the tournament, got their team off to a flier.
The left and right-hand combination was unsettling for the Bangalore bowlers, the DD openers lashed at them scoring at a rate of over 8 and reached 33 in 4 overs.
Warner was the first to go as Zaheer Khan bounced back, dismissing him on 7 runs.
Sehwag, who was looking menacing at the other end, was forced to slow down after Warner’s fall.
It was not long until Sehwag fell to pressure himself, getting run out for 25 runs from 18 balls.
Fortunately for Delhi, James Hopes the Aussie all rounder and Mathew Wade got together in the middle, adding 25 runs for the third wicket.
Wade was dismissed for just 8 runs by Abhimanyu Mithun. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Venugopal-Rao-c2752, the next man in, joined Hopes and the pair started rebuilding the innings. The two added 47 runs for the 4th wicket and took the score past 100.
Daniel Vettori took charge and dismissed Rao for 24, the right hander came down the wicket looking for a big one and missed it all together.
Hopes, sensing the end, started looking for the big shots, he completed a much deserved half century but was dismissed soon after in the 19th over. He scored 54 runs from 43 balls with 7 fours.
