Delhi Daredevils v Chennai Super Kings – Indian Premier League 5 – Match recap – Daredevils claim 8-wicket victory over Super Kings
Virender Sehwag’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 Daredevils clinched an 8-wicket victory over the Chennai Super Kings in the 11th match of the Indian Premier League 5, played at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi on April 10.
The Daredevils won the toss and opted to field. However, the Super Kings, winners of the last IPL season, were hardly what one might term as challenging opponents. The very first delivery by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Faf-du-Plessis-c1427
and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/M-Vijay-c1867. Confused running and a bad call by du Plessis resulted in Vijay’s run out on the very first ball, getting the Super Kings off to a 0 for 1 start.
The early mix-up set the tone for the rest of the innings. MS Dhoni’s unit appeared listless and fragmented. Du Plessis was sent back to the pavilion by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/M-Morkel-c73528 after contributing just 15 runs, and his dismissal was followed by 2 more run outs. Suresh
Raina (17) hit a http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yogesh-Nagar-c98297 was too quick for him, catching him short of the crease.
The Super Kings found themselves at 43 for 3 after Raina’s dismissal, but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Subramaniam-Badrinath-c2593, who followed him to the crease, was just as disappointing. He had only managed to chalk up 15 runs, before more panicked running led to Badrinath being run out
by Pietersen and wicketkeeper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Naman-Ojha-c2057.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RD-Shah-c2298 Jadeja, Player of the Match from Chennai’s last game against the Deccan Chargers, was lackluster in the clash with the Daredevils, and as opposed to his 48 off 29 in the last match, managed only 13 before he was caught out by Ojha off Pathan. Similarly,

Skipper Dhoni came in at number 7, but failed to inspire his side, managing a mere 11 before his attempt to hit a delivery by Morkel over long-on was caught by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397.
The last dismissal of the match was another run out – the fourth of the innings – as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shadab-Jakati-c2475 (1) were unable to
make much of a contribution, and the Super Kings finished on 110 at the end of 20 overs.
The Daredevils' batsmen barely had to exert themselves as they breezed to 111 in a mere 14 overs, at the expense of 2 wickets. The innings started with Ashwin getting back at Ojha for his run out – the Daredevils wicketkeeper started off with 3 fours off
3 deliveries, but some tight fielding by du Plessis, as Ojha attempted to take two runs, enabled Ashwin to send the 28-year-old right-hander back to the dressing room.
Captain Sehwag chipped in with an impressive 33 off 21, but the highlight of the home team’s innings was the unbeaten 3rd wicket 61-run partnership between Pietersen (43 off 26) and Jayawardene (20), which saw their side comfortably to the target,
with 40 balls remaining. Aside from Ashwin, who claimed the prized wicket of Sehwag, the remaining bowlers were powerless against the rampaging overseas duo.
Morkel was awarded the Player of the Match for his 2 for 19 in 4 overs, and the Daredevils found themselves gaining 2 match points. They currently occupy the 3rd spot on the points table, and will be looking to move upwards as they take on the
