Delhi Daredevils v Pune Warriors - IPL 5 - Warriors narrowly beat Delhi – Match Recap
Pune http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warriors-c861 192/3 (20/20 ov) v Delhi Daredevils 172/7 (20.0/20 ov) - Pune Warriors won by 20 runs
On Saturday, Pune Warriors pulled off a close win against Delhi Daredevils only by 20 runs, thanks to skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 Daredevils from cruising their way to the required target of 193 runs needed to win.
Had Ganguly failed, KP might have repeated a match winning performance as he was looking comfortable in the middle, before getting his stumps pulverised by the Pune skipper, who had to come and bowl when Pune’s main bowlers were being seen off by the Delhi batsmen.
The move was excellent and exhibited Sourav’s vision as a captain, knowing when to break a potentially dangerous partnership. The left-handed batsman, today once again showed just why he was called “the man with the golden arm” during his international days for team http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
After losing the toss, Pune were forced to bat first, nonetheless, this did not affect the team as after losing an early wicket of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JD-Ryder-c1679 and Ganguly, shredding Delhi’s bowling line-up.
The knocks of 86 and 41 by Ryder and the skipper, helped the team amass an intimidating total of 192 runs on the board for the loss of three wickets.
With a wicket so perfect to bat on, defending this total was always going to be easier said than done, as Delhi had the likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397, Sehwag and Kevin Pietersen all set to rise to the occasion by chasing down the required target.
Pune made inroads by grabbing their first wicket with only 12 runs on the board, as Jayawardene fell after scoring seven runs.
Sehwag and Pietersen then forged a daunting alliance and were looking extremely dangerous before Ganguly struck and nabbed his first victim with 87 runs on the board.
From this point onwards, the batting side kept losing wickets, and while the skipper stood their defiant, he failed to receive the much needed support from his batsmen on the other end.
Sehwag’s wicket in the 13th over was the last nail in Delhi’s coffin as with their skipper back in the pavilion with 57 runs to his name, the side had no one who could steer them across the finish line.
Pune now have four wins from seven games and now are sitting at third place in the points table. Devils, however, have not been dethroned from their number-one spot as they are still the best team in the tournament with four wins from six games.
