Delhi Daredevils vs Mumbai Indians – IPL 5 – Match Recap – Delhi march on after thumping win
Delhi Daredevils stretched their lead at the summit of the Indian Premier League to 3 points, after a convincing 37-run victory against Mumbai Indians on their home ground, the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, on April 28, 2012.
Delhi’s batting powerhouses all clicked, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806 also showcased their daunting statures to make aggressive half-centuries. Their
endeavours helped the team to post 207, and their bowlers again complimented to restrict the Mumbai side at `170 for 9.
The Mumbai franchise welcomed back http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SL-Malinga-c2540, following his early return from injury. However, his availability did not faze Jayawardene, who kick-started the innings by collecting three boundaries off his national teammates second over. That gave the
side the impetus and they never looked back.
Boundaries came in almost every over, and it did not take long for Sehwag to cut loose – scoring the first six of the match off http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RP-Singh-c87028, which went over the long-off boundary. The team’s fifty was reached in six overs and despite the field being stretched
out following that; the momentum was certainly favouring the home side.
It also included a missed stumping from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KD-Karthik-c1780, and Sehwag ensured that he made the most of his second lifeline. He crossed his 50 in style – pulling Pollard for a six. The solitary over, from the Windies’ all-rounder, alone cost 23, and took the
score well past 100. Jayawardene continued on with his elegant style of play and reached his 50, before Mumbai finally got a much needed break through, provided by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RG-Sharma-c2309 at point,
who took a straight forward catch.
Pietersen arrived and joined in the fun, taking 14 of the last three balls of the 15th over. The Delhi innings halted for an over after a double strike from Peterson. He first got rid of Sehwag (73) before sending back http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Irfan-Pathan-c1601 for a duck.
That sent http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820’s spin attack. Harbhajan’s last over went for 18, while Peterson’s, who had conceded just 17 in his first three, final six balls yielded 20 – the pair collecting 41 in just 2.4
overs.
Malinga retuned for the penultimate over, and managed to take out http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yogesh-Nagar-c98297 on successive balls, and conceded just 2 runs. The last over then saw Pietersen reaching his 50, and helping the team to cross the 200-run mark.
He remained unbeaten, along with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780’s high-profile batting lineup clicked in style.
