Delhi may serve as a potential venue for short Indo-Pak series – Cricket News Update
Arrangements for the proposed bilateral series between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 as a potential venue for the event.
The two nations played their last bilateral series in 2007, after which the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 terror attacks, which occurred in 2008, soured the diplomatic, and subsequently the sporting relations between the two. Since then, while the two teams had played against
each other in international tournaments such as the 2011 http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 earlier this year, a bilateral series between the two had yet to be organised, until now.
Pakistan Cricket Board chairman, Zaka http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Srinivasan-c90829 in Chennai earlier this month, after having been invited to watch the final of the Indian Premier League, where talks were initiated regarding the resumption of bilateral
ties.
Initially, a one-off match was proposed, but a top BCCI official, in conversation with
Mail Today, confirmed that the event is likely to be a short 3-match series, which will be scheduled in between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749’s tour of India late this year, and is expected to be played in either Delhi, Mohali, or Kanpur.
“Playing one match doesn't make much sense, but we can't have more than three matches as the series … would be slotted between the Test series and the ODIs against England,” the official revealed, adding that the only free slot available in the season was
the 13 days after the 4 Tests and 2 T20s against England (scheduled to end on December 22), and before the 5-match ODI series, due to begin on January 11, 2013.
“If there are three games - either two T20s and one ODI, or two ODIs and one T20 - they have to finish in nine days. So, the venues have to be close to each other,” the official continued. “They could be Delhi, Mohali and Kanpur. But Chennai can't be ruled
out.”
Meanwhile, Ashraf confirmed that the PCB was willing to adjust to any time slot and venue chosen by the BCCI. He also went on to add that he would be meeting with Srinivasan in Kuala Lumpur later to sign an MoU for the series.
