I am trying to see what others think on how to save a little money on my reception budget. I am having little sandiches (ham and turkey) but should I buy the meat from the deli or should I buy a whole ham and cook it and slice it same with the turkey? which would be the cheapest? Whatever i have left of the whole turkey or/and ham I can make other stuff from and freez , but the deli meat goes bad fast. please let me know. I have about 80 people coming and I think that maybe 2-3 sandwiches per person, also how big of a ham and turkey should I buy? or pounds of deli meat? Thanks

  1. You might want to figure about 1/2 lb. per person; and don't forget cheese to go on the sandwiches!  Maybe Swiss with ham, and I like provolone or mozzarella with turkey.  It would be cheaper to do the whole ham & turkey and slice it - as long as you can get the slices thin enough!  It would probably taste alot better if you make it yourself too:) ... Oh, and don't forget mustard.  Honey mustard is good on either of them; or Dijon...

  2. i think the natural ham and turkey are the best choices.  the deli stuff is processed food and not healthy.  and like you mentioned, you have other meal choices with the leftovers of ham and turkey.  i'm not great with serving sizes, but a nice sized bone in or even the spiral cut ham would probably do the trick.  and a large turkey breast would make some nice sandwiches.  good luck and enjoy.

  3. A whole ham would be cheaper, but it depends on how many people you will feed.  Make sure you get a big enough ham.  As far as turkey.  The turkey I would buy from the deli as much as you need for your guests.  Walmart sells the Jennie O white smoked turkey, the cheapest and it is GOOOOD!  They also have Old Country Farmers Ham which is good as well.
