  1. look up patriots in the dictionary.

  2. In 8 ball or 9 ball, if you foul, your opponent gets ball in hand.  Let's say you're playing 8 ball and his last group ball (solid or stripe) is stuck against the 8 ball so he can't make it.  It may be in your best interest to foul, give him ball in hand, and see if he can make a defensive shot.

Here's another situation that I've been in.  My opponent was down to the 8 ball, but it was my shot and I had two balls left.  I didn't really have a good shot at either of them because they were too far away.  So I hit the cue ball into the 8 ball so the 8 ball rolled up against one of my balls.  This gave my opponent ball in hand, but the 8 ball was tied up so it was a difficult shot and he missed.  Then I ran out and won the rack.

Similar situations can arise in 9 ball too, with clusters and difficult position shots.

  3. 3 fouls in a row is automatic loss. If your opponent does this 3 times in a row, either intentionally or by mistake you win.

  4. In pool, a deliberate foul is a foul shot that is played purposefully to the players own advantage. For example if you were snookerd towards the end of the game, and rather than trying to hit your ball, you pot the white knowing that respotting the white would make the other players next shot more difficult.  Deliberate fouls are against the rules and if one is played the player is immediately disqualified and the other player wins the game by default.

  5. In bar rules, it could be because the opponent's last ball is in the kitchen and you don't have a decent shot...so you just sewer the cue ball and your opponent is forced to shoot forward from behind the line.  He likely won't make the ball and you'll probably have a better shot at your ball.  This is perhaps the most unfair thing about "bar rules" and a good reason that they should be abolished...bar rules suck big time.  The deliberate foul is a purely tactical move and the same rules would apply as with any foul...ball in hand for your opponent.  I pulled a deliberate foul in 9-ball just last night...I like to do it by simply picking up the cue ball and handing it to my opponent.
