Delighted Matthew Stevens says Wales has shown their strength
The Welsh Dragon, Matthew Stevens, is pretty excited for heading back at the Crucible Theatre to be a part of the most prestigious event of snooker. Stevens told the media that Wales has shown their strength, as this year there are five Welshmen participating
at the home of snooker.
Stevens said this year the Welsh Potting Machine, Mark Williams, the Welsh Dynamite, Ryan Day, the Welsh Spaceman, Dominic Dale and the Welsh Crucible debutant, Andrew Pagett are with him in the first round. He also added that normally only two out of them
make it to the Crucible, but this year five Welshmen are participating and it is a really a good sign.
Matthew, who previously lost in the final qualifying rounds of both 2009 and the 2010 World Championship, admitted the fact that it was horrible for him to miss out. However this year he is excited to be a part of the big event, as he managed in qualifying
for the event after a thrilling win over Fergal O’Brien in the final deciding frame. Moreover this fully stretched battle came on the final black ball before Stevens got a chance to drop it in.
Stevens got so excited that he shouted ‘Yes’ loudly upon winning the match. Though later on he apologised for his rude behaviour, the excitement was clearly visible to everybody. He said he should not have done it, but he just got carried away as he desperately
wanted to be a part of the big event.
The Welsh Dragon, who lost his battle against Mark Williams and Shaun Murphy in the finals of the 2000 and 2005 World Championship, has greatly improved this season. His consistent performances during the season, has once again secured a place in the top
16.
Stevens, who reached the semi-finals of the PTC Grand Finals and then the Championship League, also said that he is pretty confident, as he is playing in good form so far.
The World Number 17, Stevens is set to meet Mark Allen on Tuesday night in the first round.
