Question:

Delivering baby at 35-37 weeks

Due to a highrisk pregnancy and new preeclampsia symptoms, my Perinatologist wants to deliver my baby soon to ensure my safety and the baby's.

I am 34w 3d now and my baby may be born anytime between 35-37 weeks....depending on how my symptoms continue to develop.

My baby has been measuring 1-2 weeks larger and is now about 6lbs according to the detailed ultrasound...we don't have a set plan yet and the Dr. said she may perform an amnio fluid test to check the baby's lungs for development prior to the c-section.

Has anyone had a similar experience and how was your baby when born? Any complications or words of encouragement you could share with me? It scares me to know my baby will be "out of the oven" a whole month early!

Thank you for any information you can provide <3

  1. You will be okay and it is good that your doctor is being so careful. My daughter was born almost 2 months early cause I was a high risk pregnancy. She is healthy and a happy and there was no problems. From the sounds of it the doctor has everything worked out and I am sure you will be fine. :) Just relax cause that is the best thing you can do to make it all go right. The more relaxed you are and confident in your doctor the better you will do. :)

  2. 35 weeks is fine, as long as the lung test comes back good then dont worry!! worry will only upset the baby. its better for baby to be out then in with preeclampsia!!! then mommy can be there for him/her :-) it will be ok. worry more about recovery from C-section lol. and 35 weeks is only 3 weeks early not a month its ok, take a breath. we freek out more when we are hormonal and pregnant (TRUST ME) *hug*

  3. my little brother was born even early same type of thing he was only 3lb. 11oz. hes three now and perfect your kid will do great:)

    good luck:)

  4. My mother had both me and my younger brother prematurely. She had me slightly more than a month early and my brother a month and a half early (don't ask me the number of weeks, she counted by months).

This was some 20-30 years ago. Anyway here we are, we're both pretty much normal, healthy adults and we also had a normal childhood. I have 3 children of my own now.

So, chances are high that your baby will turn out to be perfectly normal and healthy. I wish you the best!

  5. i went into preterm labor at exactly 35 weeks. i delivered my daughter the next morning. she was perfect. no health complications or anything. she just turned 3 months old and is average size for a full term infant. hope for the best!

  6. Don't be worried. Babies born any where after 6 weeks early aren't even considered preemies. I'm sure the baby will be fine. Mine were two weeks early just because I had scheduled c-sections. All you need to worry about it the baby's lungs. If the doctor is going to check prior to the c-section and they don't think they are developed enough, they will give you medicine (steroids) to speed the development of the lungs. It sounds like you are in good hands, don't be scared.

  7. I delivered my daughter at exactly 37 weeks and she was perfectly fine. And I also had preeclampsia with her. She was a healthy 7 lbs 11 oz, she was a little blue when she was born but it was only because my epidural failed on me and I don't do pain well, so I was having trouble breathing myself.

  8. I work with a birth to 3 early intervention program and deal with many similiar clients. One thing you definitely want to do is check "Part C" and "Early Intervention" and your state name to determine the contact for your state for the program there like mine. If I knew your state I could tell you, but since I don't, these search terms would be good. Or search "Child Development Watch" and on that web page is a link to a page of different links that would take you to the listing of all the programs in each state. If you are overseas military, they are even getting these programs in their areas now. It is a federally funded program. Whether your baby has any delays or not, this program can follow you and your baby, do periodic developmental assessments and help arrange any interventions your baby may need to overcome any delays he/she might have. In addition, our focus is the whole family, not just the baby. Good luck and my prayers are with you and your baby!

  9. I was induced at 37 weeks with my 1st son, due to preeclampsia. He was just fine, weighed 7 lbs 8 oz, and was 21 inches long :) You'll be in good hands.
