Delivery charge?

What is a fair delivery price to charge someone when delivering an item? I'm delivering a fish tank and stand to somone 20 miles from me. Due to size I am having to take my Mitsubishi L200 gas-guzzling pick up truck. What is a fair rate or amount to charge? eg. so much per mile or so much altogether?

I live in the UK, and the truck runs on regular diesel. Thanks

  1. i own a house removal company i wood charge about £75

  2. 40p per mile is the standard goverment rate to cover fuel, wear and tear and maintenance.

on top of that you would add your hourly rate.

I too have an L200 ! It is a 2007 model on a 57 plate. I doubt it would do 40 miles in one go without breaking

( as you can see, i think my L200 is a pile of cardboard and fortunately have 2 other cars ! )

    edit:

Arrh, yours is 54, you haven't expereinced the joys of the facelift model. I swear the oil shortage is down to the amount of plastic mitsu put in the new L200 ;-)

funny how L200 were, at one point, a real threat to landrovers etc, may farmers were buying them. Not now, now I just see people complaining about them. They blew it with cost cutting and poor materials.

Did you see that Mitsu came 3rd from BOTTOM in the JD Power survey ?

    Anyway, enough moaning about cars...

For the delivery, I'd say £30 would be fair for a tank that 1 person can lift, £20 would be too cheap. I'd baulk at paying £70.
