Hi.

I have a Dell Dimension 3100 it has been working fine for the past year and a half but recently during start up of the computer it experiences a problem and can not get past checkpoint (ithr). I retry start up and after about 10 or so tries it finally works properly. How can I prevent this problem?

Thanks!

  1. Or not.

Have you tried a repair installation of Windows? If Windows can't boot, odds are there is a problem with some files in it. that's just common sense, and is a rather common problem.

It could be a problem with the MBR (master boot record). To repait it:

Start > Run > type "cmd" > Enter > in the black command box, type "FDISK /MBR " (with the space) at the prompt > Enter

  2. They always it is a good thing to download new drivers for your machine from dell, especial the bios firmaware, and keep uptodate your antivirus and spy program, and run in safe mode.

You need to enter and the bios setup, and also it will good to open the case and run your PC, maybe a hardware it is fail, like fans, batery or bat conecctions.
