My hard drive space is low so I need to upgrade. On this pc it looks like there is a space below the first hard drive to install a second, can you? Does it come with a second hook up wire? Or will I just have to replace it with a larger hard drive and transfer the data to it? Thanks

  1. Yeah you will have to look up your MOBO specs and find which SATA plug to plug the second on into.

  2. You can install a second Disc if there is a mounting place.  Set the second drive up as slave.  You can also piggyback the second drive with the primary HDD cable.  I prefer to have only one HDD

  3. First off, you need to find out what type of hard drive you've got (IDE, SATA, SATAII).

When you know, just go out and buy the same type, you should see in your computer case attached to the power supply, you have a spare few connectors for other drives.

If it's SATA/II then you'll need another SATA lead, you can pick them up from the computer store.

I recommend going into a local store (An independent one) and asking a few questions.

Or, you could just buy an external USB hard drive and hide it out the way.

  4. When you get a modern computer it usually comes with a power supply cord, and an adapter to chain it to your other hard drive.  The only real issue you will have is setting the jumpers on the hard drives, but the information for doing that is available online.

  5. You can have two hard drives in your computer.  Make sure you get the right kind (I believe yours is SATA).

You might also consider getting a much bigger drive and cloning your current one to the new one with Acronis True Image.  Then you'd have all your stuff the way it is now, just on a bigger drive.  You could use your old one internally as a second drive or get an external enclosure and use it as an external hard drive for backups.
