Dell Inspiron 1520 won't shut down when printer...

Question

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 with XP Pro. When my brother mfc-6800 is connected, the screen stays on with the message ''Windows is shutting down'' never disappearing. Also, when it goes into sleep mode, it won't come back up. I have to manually hold the power button the power down.
