Question:

Dell Inspiron 6000 Laptop won't turn on or hold a charge?

My laptop won't turn on or charge. I've purchased new chargers and batteries to see if that was the problem. When it was working, and I had the charger in, the screen would flicker back and forth from being charged and not being charged (when charging, the screen was a bit darker.)

I've tried taking the battery out and plugging in the charger, which does the same thing; the lights on the front of the laptop light up, as if wanting to power up, then they blink out and the machine fails to operate. There is no sound, such as fans attempting to turn, when I turn it on.

I believe it may be a problem with a faulty connection on the motherboard, though I'm not entirely sure, as there are a few things I can't do, such as test my battery on a different laptop. Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

  1. You could try re-setting the ram, usually on the bottom of the laptop. just un-s***w with a phillips and press the gold colored connectors on the side of the ram, pull the ram out and re-insert, you can go the the dell support page for more info on resetting ram.

  2. Try doing a power drain. Remove battery & unplug power cord. Press & hold down the power button for about 20-30 seconds. Then connect back the adapter and battery and check if its working. If you don't see anything on the screen & if some lights are blinking on the screen then the system is not posting. Could be a issue with the motherboard or some other internal component. Call Tech support and we will be able to assist you.

    Hope this helps you.
