My laptop screen has vertical lines on it. When i plug it into an external monitor everything is fine. If i pinch the upper left hand corner of the screen about two inches in on the bezel it starts works fine untill i let it go. Then goes back to the lines. Any ideas on what needs to be done with it. Thanks

  1. Turn off the laptop. Now press and hold down the Fn key on your laptop and holding down the Fn key turn on the laptop. It will do some diagnostics and if in case you see all those vertical lines during the tests then the lcd screen has gone bad.

  2. although it could be cables, more than likely, you will have to replace the screen. if its under warranty and has no physical damage, dell should cover it. if not, you might want to look for a reliable company that sells used parts. not worth paying full retail. could be several hundred dollars from dell depending on the screen. last time i looked one up from them they wanted $600.
