My family needs a new computer, are old Dell broke fast, so really the question is, which Mac is good, less than $1000 please.

I've heard that macs have no viruses, true?

Anyway, I enjoy playing games and all, so is it still good to play games on?

Really, what computer would you buy? And does it have no viruses, start up fast, and last.

  1. Out of those 2, Dell.  Tip:  NEVER by Toshiba.  They s***w up a lot.  I have a Gateway...love it!

  2. I have a mac and I would just say that to get a good one there pretty pricey and then to keep it updated it is also pretty pricey. My family's mac was 2000 and then the Leopard was 90. Macs get no viruses (which is nice) and they run SOOOO much faster than PC's!!! The mac is also good to play games on but the game price for Macs are like 40-50 bucks and for a PC its cheaper. I would go with a Mac because I'm very impatient and I don't like to wait for things like waiting for the computer to load or start up (which you don't do with a mac you just leave it on) and it doesn't get viruses and it isn't as slow. Mac's also last forever so thats kinda nice to know!

  3. Computers don't come with viruses. You get them. Anyone who blames their virus problem on the operation system is a fool. I've used Microsoft my whole life and have never seen a virus. If you are careful, use the proper security software, and use common sense online viruses shouldn't be a problem.

It's the same with longevity. I've had Dells that lasted well beyond the point they became obsolete. It's all how you take care of it. I prefer custom PCs now, but Dell is the only brand I've ever had a good experience with. They are just too expensive now.

  4. i would go dell.  windows has better games overall and u get 10000000% better hardware with windows.  u can upgrade your own parts but in mac u are very limited to it.  macs have no viruses that is true but if u have good protection for windows then theres not a problem.  i recommend gettin nod32 smarty security.  best everything on the planet.

  5. Look, I just purchased an Apple MAC and I used to be a PC user. I'm not knocking PC but I will tell you this. I LOVE MY MAC!!! It is rare it gets viruses, It doesn't take 20 minutes to start and 5 minutes to turn off. Its fast!! and the design it top of the line. TRUST GO MAC!!

I will never go PC again.

  6. If you used to play games on your Dell, you would definitely still have to get a Windows machine (be it Dell, HP, Toshiba, whatever). I personally don't like Dell's because many of them break sooner than expected. However, if you buy a mac, your old Windows games won't be compatible with it and you won't be able to play them.

Mac's are great but are incompatible with 99% of the software out there. The best thing about Windows is that it's compatible with 99% of the software out there. I'd personally get a Windows machine, but not a Dell.

  7. Yes, its true - Mac OS X isn't plagued with viruses like Microsoft Windows is. Another option would be Linux - cheaper hardware can be used (runs on Apple hardware too though) and also not plagued with viruses.

Any Mac hardware will be fine. Just get the best you can afford.

Mac OS X isn't that hot on games though. If you want to play games, I'd spend the money on a PS 3.

  8. You aren't going to find a Mac cheaper than $1000.00 but you can get a Mac book which is $1099.00. The Mac book is obviously a laptop but its a really good working one!

My uncle has one and a works fabulous!! I personally love it! If you are specifically looking for a computer and not a monitor you can buy the Mac mini.

The Mac is perfect for playing games on because its like the only computer in history that doesn't get viruses. Its starts up really fast!! You will love the Mac laptop that you would want to buy one for each person in your family! At first you are going to have to get used to it because its not like all computers. your tools and documents are going to be located in different places. Its just a whole different setup compared to Dell. Your family can also enjoy taking cool, funny photos on this laptop because it has a built in camera. ENJOYY!!

  9. Yes Mac computers are very flashy and have fun little programs for you to mess with (like the web cam). But a Dell is in your price range, Macs are more for an artistic kind of person but PC are more of a thing you'll see in the business world (you'll run into one sooner or later). If you need this computer for your family I say not Mac.

P.S. Please do more research,  I think some of the best answers are gonna be "It goes faster" or "You can never get a virus ever".

  10. dell

  11. Mac less than 1000? that leaves you with the crappy mac mini.

don't waste your money on that.

If your budget is 1000 you can buy a great dell pc.

If you want a fast start up in the customization get a fast hard drive and for games a good graphics card( In case you aren't graphics card savvy the more expensive it is the better it will be i recommend nvidia Geforce cards) .

Also don't worry about viruses just download the free version of Avg anti-virus. It'll stop  viruses dead in their track, i've seen it give me a message twice that a virus has attempted to break into my computer and avg has stopped it.

But really for a 1000 You can get a pc that will be far better and faster than a mac.

just remember to customize it with a fast hard drive for quick start ups and a good graphics card for games and download avg.

  12.     O.K. Let be give you my side of the story. You mentioned that you like playing games. In that case, I don't think that a MAC would seriously cut it. Many games are not "written" for the MAC platform. Also, the better MACs are over $1200. You would be much better off with a PC. The virus issue can be taken care of with a good firewall/anti virus system and a little web browsing caution on your part.

I should also mention that there seems to be "horse power race" going on in the PC industry and now is the time to buy. For example, in many cases you're liable to get a very powerful PC with stock memory in excess of 2 gigabytes (which is user upgradable), hard drives in excess of 250 gigabytes, and stock video graphics "cards" that are much better that what was affordable just a couple of years ago. Neither MAC or PC is "perfect". But, I really feel that a new PC would be a better deal for you in the long run.  Don't focus on Dell only, look at others also such as HP, Acer, Gateway, Lenovo, others. I rest my case.

  13. hahahahaha, a mac... less then $1000?

    you're dreaming.

I've had an acer for 6 years, and it's still running smoothly.

  14. I would go with DELL. If you are going to play games online make sure you are protected with a firewall. A computer can last for a long time depending on the care you give to it. As for mac there is less viruses on the web for it but if the hardware gets messed up it is difficult to get them since no one sells mac hardware, you can only get it from apple and sometimes parts can be very expensive. But its up to you if you get dell and going to be online get a good firewall your computer will be thankful. Also there is more viruses for windows since it sell more than mac those who writte viruses are going for the major seller.

  15. For under a 1000$ you wont be playing any high graphic games.

  16. Dell. Don't listen to those ignorant Mac fanboys who think they know something, when really they just know what Apple tells them. Now, I will clear up any c**p surrounding Macs. THEY ARE GARBAGE! People say, they don't get viruses, they're so great, read this-

    http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/bursting-your...

As for they're, insane durability, don't drop your PC in a puddle, and it won't be an issue. As for start up times, that depends on what the user does, and what they do to protect against viruses. Oh, and people say that the hardware is Macs is perfect, you can get hardware that in a PC , for half the cost! Not to mention that Macs have like 1 game, and to get good hardware for gaming, you'll spend like $3,000. I think I made my point, buy a Dell or an HP. Or, if you have the technical know-how, save yourself $500 and build  a PC yourself, something you can't do with a Mac!  Oh, and I just thought that I would mention how stellar that new Iphone 3G firmware update is. Yeah, not.

  17. no way jose,

    deffinitely mac

i love my imac, though that probably doesnt fit within your price range

they are so much faster i think and just spifftastic

  18. MAC

    MAC MAC MAC

    MAC................MAC

    Get a Mac!

no viruses at all i don't even have any antivirus software or anything

studies show macs last 2x as long at least as PCs do

starts up in less than 30 seconds, log in annd everything, had it for months even (btw thats faster than my PHONE even, crazy right?) (iPhone if you wondering, original, but definitely worth it if you want one, AT&T is great too) (ANYWAY)

great at doing most everything, creating, media, chatting & internet, every program is made to work with every other program perfectly its great (not sure about gaming though, not a gamer)

plus all the free built in Mac OS X features that windows is lacking like spaces, expose, time machine, finder, etc

I made the switch and i am NEVER EVER EVER EVER going back to Windows, and youd do the same if you wanted your computer to be useful!
