We got some Disks from Dell to fix our computer, i'm using my Wii right now. Somehow this file C:/Windows/System32/something/Windows got corrupt or missing and we can't log onto out user accounts of anything. My mom has the disks but she doesnt know which one to put in. She called Dell but they are taking too long. She put one of the disks in and nothing happened. I was thinking that it wouldnt work because she wasent on the desktop screen. The screen is just blank. One disk says Windows XP Service Pack 2 Install or something. And the others are some Dell tools and roxio stuff. So how do we make this work?

  1. You need to insert the Dell reinstallation disk into the cd-rom drive, then reboot the computer with the disk in, as the system is rebooting hold down the F-12 key. make sure the number lock on keyboard is not on. You will get a message asking which drive to boot from, chose cd-rom.  after it loads the drivers, it will then ask if you want to install Windows xp. Say Yes , Then it will look for an existing Windows installed, After it locates the windows xp, it will give you an option to repair current windows, say yes, other wise it will do a complete install and you would have to load all your programs again into  the system.

  2. Make sure you have it in the right slot. If you have two slots (ie DVD and CD-RW), then one might be preferred to read install discs over the other one. On mine it is the top slot.

It should say system restore discs... I think.

  3. put the disk in the cd drive and reboot your computer, when it say's boot menu F8, press F8 and boot from the CD.

BTW, sorry if this doesn't work.

  4. do the service pack 2 disk and restart the computer, should ask to hit a key to enter setup
