Question:

Dell XP Window Laptop Fail to Connect to Wireless Router?

I have a Link System Router so I can use my laptop any where in the house. As of 2 days ago I had to reset all the services and programs on it. Now I can't get my laptop to connect to the router- the failure is it cannot find a IP address. The other desktop upstairs works just fine with a wireless connection to my link system router, but my laptop isn't. The signal shows excellent, but I keep getting that message -Unable to connect to the internet-invalid IP Address. Does any one have a solution?

  1. check the routers manual (For your reference Linksys is a brand name not an abbreviation) It is possible that the router has locked your computer because it does not recognize it.

  2. you can try to repair your connection one of two ways either in windows. Right click on the wireless connection icon  in your taskbar and click repair. or in command prompt. click on start > Run > type "cmd" without quotes and type ipconfig /release then type ipconfig /renew

  3. the same thing happened to me a few days ago. i also have xp, on your lap top you have a wireless on and off button make sure its pushed to the far right and you need to shut- down your comp and re-start. if that dosent work you can call your internet provider for free cust service. they will be able to help.
