Dell crashes and restarts upon...

Question

Vista Home Premium, SP1 installed when purchased, Intel Core 2 Duo. When sleep, hibernate or off button (software button) used the machine gets most of the way through shutting down, then displays a "failed to boot normally" screen as it wakes prematurely.

Seems to work normally much of the time if unplugged prior to putting to sleep etc.
