  1. HP. support good. responce good.

Dell Support can be a bit iffie.. respose good

Both Dell's and HP's are reliable, how ever HP (who took over Compaq) tend to be more ruggid, and sound, as the laptops tend to combine the best of Compaq and HP technology. HP everytime for me.

  2. If you want a laptop that will last more than a month go with the HP.

Ive got a dell and its the biggest waste of money ive ever parted with. Ive now had 4!!! replacement hard drives because every time you re install windows you need a new hard drive because the last one becomes corrupt

The power supply has also gone even taking the battery out every time its not in use and not leaving it plugged in longer than normal from day one the battery after 2 years lasts 5 minutes!!!! after a full charge.

I cant say that dell tech support is bad because they all know what their talking about and they really help you allot even if you cant pronounce their name half the time but that's one good point

Ive also had a couple of encounters with HP and all in all they are really good. solid well built high end hardware that lasts and the support isn't to shabby either so all in all go with HP

    Hope its helps

  3. I have 9 HP laptops - in the future I'd buy anything that's not HP (or Compaq) before I'd take one of theirs for free.  (Tech support actually told me to take apart an under-warranty laptop once.)

I recently bought a Gateway 6860FX.  Very nice , powerful, expandable laptop.

My wife bought their 7811FX last weekend.  i'm very impressed.  (Anyone want a slightly used 6860FX for $1,200 with Ubuntu 8.04 running as a Windows task?)
