Delmon Young shines as Minnesota Twins defeat San Diego Padres 5-4 – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins’ out-fielder, Delmon Young had a remarkable day with the bat as he went 2-for-4 and scored a final run in the last inning to give the Twins a 5-4 victory against the San Diego Padres at Target Field, Minnesota on June 19.
The Twins got off the mark in the first inning by adding one run and led off with 1-0 when Alexi Casilla struck a solo homer (375 feet) towards right-field. No run was posted in the second and third inning of the game as the pitchers played some sluggish
shots towards the field area.
The game was tied 1-1 at the top of the fourth inning when Jason Bartlett scored a single run on the drive of Ryan Ludwick to right-field, as Chase Headley occupied second base. The Padres went ahead 3-1 during the fifth inning.
Chris Denorfia hit a sacrifice fly to centre-field and Orlando Hudson added one run. The second run was taken by Will Venable when Headley reached to third base on an infield single. The sixth inning went in favour of the pitchers as they did not allow any
run.
Francisco Liriano was pricey with the ball as he gave three runs on eight hits including three earned runs and struck-out eight batters in seven inning pitches. He pitched the ball with an ERA of 4.59 and permitted two walks on his 100 pitches.
The Twins blasted three runs during the seventh inning and took a 4-3 lead. Tsuyoshi Nishioka was grounded out to third base and Michael Cuddyer posted a single run. Luke Hughes scored one run on the drive of Rene Tosoni towards right-field while the third
run of three-run campaign was taken by Tosoni when Matt Tolbert doubled to deep centre-field.
The Twins’ manager, Ron Gardenhire said, “That's how you do these things. Everybody has to play a part. Everybody has a role and everyone has to come through.”
The Padres again levelled the game 4-all in the eighth inning when Venable reached to first base on an infield single and Ludwick contributed a tie run. During the ninth inning of the game, Drew Butera singled to left centre and Young posted a leading run
for the Twins.
